Raven Marine assists boat owners in meeting the new legislative requirements governing positive flotation certification and fitness of both old and new boats. Raven can assess your boat and issue positive flotation certificates and fitness certificates.

Boating Tips

  • Ensure your boat or watercraft has a certificate of fitness

  • Ensure the boat driver is in possession of a valid competency certificate or skippers licence

  • Make sure you hitch the trailer correctly to the towing vehicle and don’t forget the safety chain

  • Make sure the brake, tail and indicators are working on the trailer before towing

  • Never tow your boat at high speed

  • Make sure to untie the boat from the trailer before launching

  • Make sure the drain plug/s are secure and tight before launching your boat

  • Ensure that the engine is trimmed down, the kill switch connected and the primer bulb is hard before starting the engine

  • Launch the boat carefully and take note of other water craft and boats around you

  • Observe the local rules of the launch site such and speed regulations and no wake zones

  • If you are new at boating try take someone experienced with you the first time out on the water

How to prolong the life of your boat

  • Engine

    • Don’t over rev the engine when cold

    • Don’t start the engine out of water

    • Replace damaged propellers

    • Service at a reputable dealer at regular service intervals

    • Keep engine clean

  • Boat

    • Wash boat with soap and water after use (especially when used in salt water or algae infected water)

    • Clean upholstery with soap and water

    • Do not get upholstery EXCESSIVELY wet

    • Have scratches and small cracks repaired early - don’t wait

    •  Use side fenders when mooring against jetty to prevent scratches and chips
